PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a novel use of astaxanthin by elucidating the function of astaxanthin in the brain, more specifically the hippocampus.SOLUTION: According to the present invention, there is provided a novel use of carotenoid, especially astaxanthin, which has been never known, as a result of finding out that carotenoid, especially astaxanthin, improves spatial cognitive function. According to the invention, therefore, the composition for improving spatial cognitive function promotes hippocampal neurogenesis in a concentration-dependent manner and significantly contributes to improvement of spatial cognitive function.
