A pre-cutter rotor (30) is disclosed. The rotor includes a central longitudinal core (32) having a central rotation axis (34) and having a plurality of tines (38) fixed to said core (32) at longitudinally spaced locations, with each of said tines (38) including a plurality of substantially radially extending points (44) spaced equal-angularly from each other about said axis (34), and each point (44) having a leading working surface (52) having a wide profile for engaging crop when the rotor (30) is rotated in a direction for moving crop rearward. In order to improve pre-cutting performance of the pre-cutter rotor (30) said working surface (52) being oriented at an angle relative to a vertical plane making a right angle with said rotation axis (34).
