A invenção refere-se a uma composição farmacêutica baseada em curcumina para o tratamento de uma infecção parasitária, especificamente infecção parasitária causada por giárdia lamblia, cujos efeitos citotóxicos. No parasita inibem o crescimento e capacidade de adesão do mesmo e induz alterações morfológicas e efeitos similares ao da apoptose no dito parasita. A nova composição formulada, a qual é baseada em um derivado de planta, é uma alternativa viável e altamente eficaz para o tratamento de giardioses, caracterizada pelo fato de que, ao contrário de outras drogas usadas para tratar dita enfermidade, não produz efeitos colaterais que forcem o paciente a suspender o tratamento.
