Compositions comprising therapeutically effective amounts of lamellar bodiesfor the modification of linear macromolecules are disclosed. These lamellarcompositions are useful in the treatment of conditions or diseasescharacterized by a preponderance of heavy mucous secretions, such as otitismedia, cystic fibrosis, bronchitis, sinusitis and nasal congestion. Methods oftreating these diseases and conditions by administering a therapeuticallyeffective amount of a composition to a patient requiring such treatment arealso disclosed.
