Exemplary embodiments provide a flexible, ambulatory and non-invasive ultrasound transducer device attachable to a users body for transmitting ultrasound waves and receiving echoed ultrasound waves for performing non-invasive monitoring or imaging of the internal structures of the users body. One or more ultrasound transducers are provided on a flexible, soft and thin backing layer that is adhered conformably and closely to a users body so that the transducers are maintained in direct and intimate contact with the users body. An exemplary device is used to monitor the heartbeat of a fetus inside a pregnant womans womb.
