The present invention relates to a method for inhibiting or reducing the growth of a microbial biofilm on a surface, characterised in that the method comprises a step of contacting the biofilm-forming microorganism with a compound according to Formula (1), or a salt or solvate thereof:wherein"ORG" is an organic moiety having from 2 to 20 carbon atoms"v" is 1,2, 3, 4, or 5"L" provides a covalent link to "ORG" and is selected from O, NH, or is a direct bond from the carbonyl group to "ORG"n" is 0 or 1 andR1, R2 and R3 are independently selected from H, OH and OCH3 provided that at least one of R1, R2 and R3 is OH.
