The present invention refers to a method for bio-controlling the rust in coffee Hemileia vastatrix Berk.et Br with a native strain of the fungus Verticillium hemileiae Boriquet. The fungus is isolated from coffee leaf rust and a pure culture being obtained in laboratories following the Koch Postulates. The best culture medium is Sabouruad Dextrosa Agar + Malt extract, the pH of the medium being of 5.5 with the purpose of optimizing the production thereof, as well as its massive spread. Evaluations were performed in greenhouse coffee plants inoculated with coffee rust as well as the application of the Verticillium hemileiae fungus, where the symptom of this fungus is induced over the rust urediospora. In such a manner, the Verticillium symptom was induced in field evaluations. In agriculture, the use and abuse of chemical products has brought harmful effects, amongst which are: increase in the production costs, resistance of plant pathogens to agrochemicals, environmental and phreatic surface pollution, severe damages to human and animal health.La presente invención se refiere a un método de biocontrol de la roya del cafeto Hemileia vastatrix Berk. et Br. con una cepa nativa del hongo Verticillium hemileiae Bouriquet. El hongo es aislado de pústulas de la roya del cafeto, y se obtiene en cultivo puro en laboratorio siguiendo los Postulados de Koch. El mejor medio de cultivo es Sabouruad Dextrosa Agar + Extracto de Malta, el pH del medio es de 5.5 con la finalidad de optimizar su producción, así como su propagación masiva. Se realizaron evaluaciones en plantas de café en vivero inoculadas con roya del cafeto y la aplicación del hongo Verticillium hemileiae, donde se logra inducir el síntoma de este hongo sobre las uredosporas de la roya.
