A pharmaceutical package 500 such as for dosage monitoring of blister packs in the pharmaceutical industry has a slide card 504 with a card flap 512 hingedly 514 connected to a base portion and slidingly received within an outer sleeve 502. A detachable monitoring device 506 is operatively connected to the package to generate data indicating the use of the package. A switch 508 which may be mechanical or magnetic is electrically connected to the monitoring device for activating and deactivating the monitoring device and is at least partly mounted on the slide card such that the switch is operated to activate or deactivate the monitoring device by at least one of translating, or sliding, movements of the slide card relative to the outer sleeve and/or by transforming movement, or flolding or unfolding, of the card flap relative to the base portion of the slide card.
