A mosquito egg capsule comprises a closed capsule; a filler; and a plurality of mosquito eggs; wherein the filler typically comprises a food source for the mosquito eggs when hatched and an inert carrier and/or bulking agent. The mosquito eggs may be infected with or otherwise comprise a mosquito-adapted bacterium capable of modifying one or more biological properties of mosquitoes hatched from the eggs. The mosquito egg capsule provides an improved nutrient environment for the storage and hatching of mosquito eggs to produce mosquitoes useful in biocontrol methods.
