A method of increasing telomere lengths in individual cells, involving measuring lengths of one or more telomeres in a cell sample taken from an individual's body； administering to an individual an aqueous bark extract of a plant of the type Uncaria tomentosa in a pharmaceutically effective amount for a period of time sufficient to increase lengths of said telomeres in said cells of said individual； repeated measurement of lengths of one or more telomeres； if telomere elongation did not occur, introduction is continued； as a result, said method leads to elongation of said telomeres.
