Feeding management for aquaculturists is a problem particularly at an early stage of fish's life cycle. Adjusting the feeding time and feed volume are very crucial for better growth and development of fry. Aquaculture has a long history in the Philippines, starting with the traditional, low density culture of milkfish in ponds and evolving into more sophisticated technology based systems for the culture of various species of fish, shrimps, mollusk and seaweeds. One of the major challenges in aquaculture is feeding . Underfeeding and overfeeding may lead to low production especially in a hatchery. An automatic fish feeder using microcontroller and GSM module technology for Bataan Peninsula State University hatchery was developed to automatically dispense the feed. To accomplish this, the feeder was able to receive messages (thru SMS) that command it to start the feeding and send messages as well to confirm that the feeding was done. Following several trials, the efficiency of the feeder was determined. It is recommended that the prototype feeder be commercially produced and that android application be used.
