The apparatus includes a scanner that is operable to read a computer-readable code and transmit a signal indicative of encoded information encoded by the computer-readable code. A non-transitory computer memory stores information relating to administration of the drug by the apparatus to the patient. A processing component establishes at least a portion of operational parameters governing the administration of the drug to the patient using the information retrieved from the non-transitory memory based on the signal transmitted by the scanner in response to scanning the computer- readable code.
