An outer periphery of the joining portion has, at its proximal end, an uneven shape in a longitudinal direction of the guide wire. The outer periphery may include a protruded portion that protrudes proximally in the longitudinal direction, and a recessed portion that protrudes distally in the longitudinal direction. The guide wire has improved joining strength between the joining portion and the coil body, preventing the joining portion from detaching from the coil body.
