A method of prolonging the survival of a homologous transplanted cell, tissue or organ is presented. These methods comprise the step of administering an inhibitor of complement activity to the allograft recipient together with one or more immunosuppressive and / or immunosuppressive methods. The inhibitor of complement activation is administered over a long period of time. These methods have been found to aid in preventing chronic rejection of allografts.
