PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To control inconvenience of reduction in an amount of seedling taken out and occurrence of missing plant regardless of the use of roll seedling. SOLUTION: This seedling planting apparatus is equipped with a seedling sending apparatus 13 for placing a mat seedling A and sending the mat seedling to a seedling outlet 12 side and a seedling retaining part 14 for supplying the mat seedling A wound in a rolled state from its one side to the seedling sending apparatus 13 and freely retaining the seedling in such a way that the seedling sending apparatus and the seedling retaining part can be reciprocated in the width of the seedling placing part 13A of the seedling sending apparatus 13 in the seedling width direction based on the seedling outlet 12. A seedling stay 27 having a sliding action on the top of the mat seedling A supplied from the seedling retaining part 14 and preventing the seedling from floating from the seedling sending apparatus 13 of the mat seedling A is installed. The seedling stay 27 is constituted so as to widen the mat seedling A in both the sides of the seedling width direction with the transportation of the mat seedling A by the seedling sending apparatus 13.
