PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To keep hands from being fouled in the application of a tampon and reduce time and labor for discarding by wiping out menstrual blood sticking to the circumference of a blood ejection hole simultaneously with the application of the tampon.
SOLUTION: The sanitary tampon with an applicator housing a compressed absorbent 4 is provided with a housing outer cylinder 2 with a freely expansible valve at its tip part, an inner cylinder 3 for extrusion inserted from the side of the rear end part of the housing outer cylinder 2 and a pull string 5 which is housed into the housing outer cylinder 2 and expanded with the absorption of water while being extended backward. A sheet material 6 liquid absorbable in an umbrella form is attached to the housing outer cylinder 2 or to the inner cylinder 3 for extrusion. The sheet material 6 consists of a fabric sheet such as a hydrophilic woven fabric or nonwoven fabric or a liquid-impermeable sheet material with a plastic film overlying the external surface of the hydrophilic fabric sheet.
