In accordance with an embodiment of the method of cooling the open water injection type ablation electrode, pressurized fluid is delivered to the ablation electrode within the fluid lumen of the catheter body. Fluid flow of the fluid lumen is a nearly laminar flow. Laminar fluid flow from the fluid substantially lumen, is transformed into turbulent fluid flow within the ablation electrode. Pressurized fluid having a turbulent fluid flow is delivered through the injection port of the ablation electrode.
