The present invention discloses the finding of a new source of fluorapatite nanocrystals obtained from the enameloid of shark teeth. This source presents the advantages of its biological origin and the important incorporation of fluorine into the enameloid structure in the form of fluorapatite as a biomineral phase with partial substitution of phosphate and carbonate hydroxides for fluoride ions.
