The base unit includes a base member that has a first side for attaching to the tooth and a second side opposite to the first side, and a plurality of retaining bars that project from the second side of the base member away from the first side and that are angularly spaced apart from one another, every adjacent pair of the retaining bars defining a retaining passage that is configured to permit selective extension of the arch wire therethrough.
