Described herein is an animal handling device designed to controllably move an animal platform and optionally an animal thereon from a first substantially animal upright position to a second substantially animal inverted position and back about a hinge rotation axis located along the side of the animal platform thereby allowing a user to fully invert an animal in a controlled manner and/or halt movement at positions intermediate the first position and second position as may be desired. More specifically, in one aspect, an animal handling device is described having an animal platform with an elongated base and at least one side attached to a longitudinal side of the elongated base, the animal platform elongated base defining an area configured to accept and allow an animal to stand thereon. The device further comprises a mechanism that communicates movement of at least one actuator to the animal platform, and, on actuation of the at least one actuator, the mechanism moves the animal platform from a first substantially upright position to a second substantially inverted position and, on further actuation, the mechanism via the at least one actuator, moves the animal platform from the second position to the first position. In a further aspect, a method of controllably restraining and rotating an animal using the device is described. The device described herein overcomes limitations in the art around not being able to fully and controllably invert an animal held therein. The device described also completes the movement action with a compact configuration.
