To provide means of performing personal authentication which is low in feeling of psychological resistance, makes forgery difficult and is achieved by acquiring data ON which personal characters are reflected well with good reproducibility while eliminating the need for or minimizing maintenance management operation for preventing a device from being stained.
SOLUTION: A personal authentication device which utilizes a vein pattern of a finger optimizes a light irradiation amount of a light source based upon a picked-up finger image and performs emphasis processing ON the vein pattern through image operation for authentication. In the present invention, the authentication which is low in feeling of psychological resistance and makes forgery difficult and has high authentication precision is achieved while eliminating the need for or minimizing the maintenance management operation for preventing contagion and an error of acquired data due to staining of the device.
