PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a brain function-improving composition useful for the improvement of learning function, apoplexy, dementia, Alzheimers dementia, brain infarct, cerebrovascular accident or disorder of memory for living bodies.
SOLUTION: This brain function-improving composition is an extract mainly composed of a polyphenol component obtained by extraction of leaves of Ligustrum purpurascens (Y. C. Yang) with water or an organic solvent alone or with their mixture, and its active ingredient is a component having antioxidant activity and/or aldose reductase inhibiting activity.
