The present invention relates to a method for extracting decursinol angelate from Angelca gigas radix leaves and a composition containing the decursinol angelate extracted thereby. The method comprises: 1) a step for washing the leaves of Angelica gigas radix with water to remove foreign substances and drying the leaves to contain 0.1-5% (w/W) of water, and grinding the leaves 2) a step for removing fat-soluble ingredients by repeating processes following as: adding normal hexane to the ground leaves, 5-15 times as much as the weight of the ground leaves, and stirring at room temperature for 1-4 hours, then sonicating a mixture for 10-40 minutes, 2-4 times 3) a step for adding ethanol having more than 95% purity to the processed mixture, 10-30 times as much as the weight of the leaves and stirring for 1-2 hours, then sonicating for 10-40 minutes and filtrating and 4) a step for obtaining an extract containing the decursinol angelate by vacuum concentrating the filtrated mixture in decompressive condition or drying the filtrated mixture at 50-100°C. According to the present invention, the extract containing plenty of dedursin as well as the decursinol angelate can be obtained from the Angelca gigas radix leaves, which are by-products for producing roots of the Angelca gigas radix so which have not been useful so far.
