CONSTITUTION: A pharmaceutical composition for preventing or treating inflammatory diseases or asthma contains a Lagerstroemia ovalifolia extract or a fraction thereof as an active ingredient. The extract is prepared using water, C_1-C_4 alcohol, or a mixture thereof. The extract suppresses NO generation, iNOS expression, prostaglandin E2 (PGE_2) generation, cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) expression, IL-6 generation, or IL-1beta generation.
