The present invention relates to the use of branched maltodextrins for inducing the lysis of eukaryotic cell walls with polysaccharide walls in the intestinal lumen of an omnivorous or carnivorous animal having an intestinal flora as well as for synergistically increasing effect of branched maltodextrins in the induction of growth of the intestinal flora of an omnivorous or carnivorous animal.
