An apparatus for breaking up the hardpan subsoil layer of agricultural landhas a wheeledframe adapted to connect to a tractor. A roller is rotatably mounted withinthe frame. Aplurality of spike members are attached to the circumferential face of theroller and extendoutwardly therefrom beneath the frame for penetrating engagement with thehardpansubsoil layer, to thereby break up the hardpan.
