PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a foreign substance detecting method and apparatus capable of detecting a foreign substance such as a lump, a tumor and a marker located in a living body in non-contact therewith, which is suitably used in surgery under a peritoneoscope, compact, safe and excellent in operability.
SOLUTION: This foreign substance detecting method comprises a step for measuring displacement oscillation generated on a measurement object surface when blowing air to the measurement object, a step for measuring a phase difference based on the measured displacement oscillation in each position of the measurement object, and a step for determining the presence/absence of the foreign substance based on the degree of the phase difference. This foreign substance detecting apparatus is provided with a pressurization means blowing the air to the measurement object, a manometer detecting the pressure of the air to be blown, a displacement gauge detecting the displacement oscillation generated on the measurement object surface by the blown air, a computing means calculating the phase difference based on signals from the displacement gauge and signals from the manometer, and a display means outputting signals from the computing means.
