The present invention includes an oxidant selected from sodium, potassium, magnesium or calcium hypochlorite, chlorite or chlorate, an artemisinin composition or derivative, or a combination thereof as the primary active oxidant. Used or administered to a warm-blooded mammalian subject to be treated to combat a pathogenic infection or infiltration, and more particularly to combat an infection or infiltration typified by a systemic pathogenic invasion of the subject. The resulting oral or other body cavity dosage form of the composition is described. The composition generally provides to a patient in need of treatment a mixed product having a concentration of the mixed active agents sufficiently low to render such an aqueous medium pharmaceutically acceptable.
