The invention described herein provides an oral solid transmucosal dosage formthat enhances transmucosal permeation of biologically active polypeptidesacross oral mucosal tissue and provides relatively rapid efficacious therapeuticonset thereof. Dosage forms prepared according to the invention can enhancetransmucosal absorption of polypeptides in therapeutic serum concentrationsto the recipient. The invention provides a solid dosage form for oral transmucosalabsorption of a biologically active polypeptide, wherein the dosage form comprisesa pharmaceutical composition comprising: a therapeutically active polypeptide；a bile salt； and an effervescent excipient component, which can comprise an effervescentcouple and optionally a pH adjusting substance. The invention includes a methodof administering a biologically active polypeptide, as well as a method of enhancingtransmucosal absorption of a biologically active polypeptide.
