PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce an impact of air bubbles in imaging a subject using an acoustic wave.SOLUTION: An acoustic wave reception device includes: a sheet-like holding member for holding a subject; a reception probe array for receiving the acoustic wave from the subject and converting it to an electric signal; a liquid tank to which the reception probe array is fixed, and in which acoustic matching liquid for connecting the subject and the reception probe array acoustically is stored; a liquid supply part for supplying the acoustic matching liquid in the liquid tank; a control part for controlling a supply amount of the acoustic matching liquid; a scanning mechanism for changing relative positional relationships between the subject, a reception element and the liquid tank; and an information generating part for generating characteristic information using the electric signal.
