The heatable fluid filled bag is heated electrically using a heater element and is portable. An override mechanism ensures that in the event of bag expansion or leakage, the electrical connection is disconnected. The heater element (200) includes a heat generating member (201) having a power connecting member means (202, 203) to heat the element (200) when connected to a power source. A first insulation member (205) and a first heat conductive layer (206), both having ends, covers the heat generating member (201). The first insulation member (205) covers the heat generating member (201) and the first heat conductive layer (206) covers the first insulation layer (205). Inner end support members (207) hold the ends of both the first heat conductive layer (206) and the first insulation member (205). The inner end support members (207) are insulated and at least one member (207) includes at least one aperture (208) to allow the power connecting member means (202, 203) there through.
