In the modern era differently abled persons find their navigation very tough with the existing assistive devices, therein a novel hands- free control system is developed using Electromyography signals. EMG signals are collected from the upper trapezius muscle of neck, which are digitalized and processed using MATLAB. These controlled signals are fed into ATmega328 based Arduino Uno Microcontroller board which controls and navigates the wheelchair. Motor controller drives the gearless DC motor attached with the wheels of the device. IR sensor is used for obstacle detection, to avoid collision and to improve safety for the user. Consequently the setup has navigational intelligence that provides moment by moment control. This wheelchair comforts the patient to move in environments with gradients and entries with diminutive space. This system is reliable, easy to set up, and easy to use. This system is cost-effective, easily accessible and affprdable.
