PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the survival and function of sperms, oocytes and embryos.SOLUTION: The survival and function of sperms, oocytes and embryos are improved in vivo or in vitro by the use of polysaccharides including arabinose, galactose and/or hexuronic acid. In particular, a non-spermicidal lubricant containing such polysaccharides (e.g., gum arabic, pectin, or galacturonic acid) improves the fertilization potential of sperms during coitus, artificial insemination or sperm collection.
