A remote control apparatus includes an operating handle, an operation pedal unit (2), and a control unit. The operating handle is for remotely operating medical equipment. The operation pedal unit (2) includes a plurality of pedals (20) each of which is operated when pressed downward by a foot to perform a function related to the medical equipment, and a sensor (26) detecting the presence of the foot operating the pedals (20). The control unit receives detection information from the sensor (26). When the control unit receives detection information from a plurality of sensors (26) arranged near the pedal (20), the control unit determines that the foot operating the pedal (20) is present.
