The present invention addresses the problem of providing a therapeutic drug and a therapeutic method that enable photodynamic therapy (PDT) against periodontal disease-causing pathogenic microbes for which conventional PDTs are not effective. The present invention involves: administering, to a site affected by periodontal disease, a therapeutic drug, for periodontal disease, containing a compound represented by formula (I) (in the formula, R1 represents a hydrogen atom or an acyl group, R2 represents a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group, a cycloalkyl group, an aryl group, or an aralkyl group) or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof； and then irradiating the site with light having a wavelength of 360-700 nm.La présente invention aborde le problème de production d'un médicament thérapeutique et de mise en oeuvre d'une méthode thérapeutique qui permettent d'effectuer un traitement photodynamique (PDT) pour éradiquer des microbes pathogènes provoquant une parodontopathie pour lesquels des PDT classiques ne sont pas efficaces.
