Tissue expanders including an expandable chamber are implanted into patients to correct skin deficit, and can include a communication component. When the implant is manipulated by a physician during insertion, loads can be created on the communication component, with the risk that the communication component will damage the wall of the expandable chamber. Disclosed are tissue expanders comprising: an implantable portion comprising a fluid source in fluid communication with an expandable chamber, a communication element disposed within a pocket, the pocket attached to the expandable chamber at a plurality of discrete locations with at least one unattached location where the pocket is not attached to the expandable chamber, and wherein the communication element is secured inside the pocket such that it floats inside the pocket； and an external controller configured for wireless communication with the communication component to enable fluid to be released from the fluid source into the expandable chamber.
