A hedge trimmer (10) having a blade assembly (18) that includes a sawblade assembly (28) for cutting through larger branches and other vegetative foliage. The sawblade assembly (28) is fixedly secured to the reciprocating hedge trimmer blade assembly (18) to move in linear back and forth motion. It extends beyond a support bar (24) for the hedge trimmer blades (20,22) so that its able to cut through the branch. A support bracket is attached to the support bar (24) to brace and support the branch as its being cut by the saw blade assembly (28).
