A hedgetrimmer having a blade assembly that includes a sawblade for cutting through larger branches and other vegetative foliage. The sawblade portion is fixedly secured to the reciprocating hedgetrimmer blade assembly to move in linear back and forth motion. It extends beyond a support bar for the hedgetrimmer blades so that its able to cut through the branch. A support bracket is attached to the support bar to brace and support the branch as its being cut by the saw blade. Also included is a pivotable guard bar at the tip of the blade assembly so protect the blades and to protect any object or structure that may be accidently struck by the blade assembly.
