Disclosed is a composition for inhibiting oral pathogens. The composition comprises an effective amount of Bacillus subtilis (Bacillus subtilis subsp. Subtilis, BS139), and a diluent, exipient or carrier. By antibiotics of short peptides secreted from Bacillus subtilis, the pathogen, particularly Streptoccocus mutans can be inhibited. The Bacillus subtilis strain used herein is the strain deposited in Bioresource Collection and Research Center (BCRC910457). Otherwise, the foregoing composition also can be used for a method of inhibiting oral pathogens.本發明揭露一種抑制口腔致病原生長之組成物,包括一有效量的枯草桿菌(Bacillus subtilis subsp. subtilis,柏氏益生菌BS139)以及一稀釋劑、賦形劑或載劑,透過該枯草桿菌分泌的短鍵胜肽內的抗生素抑制該口腔致病原的生長,其中該口腔致病原係為轉糖鏈球菌(Streptoccocus mutans),該枯草桿菌係為保存於中華民國食品工業發展研究所生物資源保存及研究中心寄存編號BCRC910457之菌株。另外,亦可將其作為一種抑制口腔致病原生長的方法,係對一個體施予上述之組成物。
