A minimally invasive system is disclosed that includes a stylet and a stylet that is slidably disposed within the lumen of the elongated device. The device includes a flexible proximal portion securely coupled to the rigid distal portion and a lumen extending through the flexible proximal portion and the rigid distal portion from the proximal end to the distal end and forming a longitudinal axis of the device. The stylet includes a flexible body fixedly coupled to the steerable portion and a sensor element extending through the flexible body.
