Non-aqueous dentifrice composition comprising a carrier, wherein the carrier comprises a surfactant system consisting of a first surfactant comprising betaine, in combination with a second surfactant representing taurate or Salkyl sulfate, or mixtures. 2. The composition of claim 1, wherein the betaine is cocamidopropyl betaine. 3. The composition of claim 1, wherein betaine is present in an amount of from 0.05 to about 4%, such as from about 0.2 to about 2% by weight of the composition. The composition of claim 1, wherein the second surfactant contains taurate. The composition of claim 4, wherein the taurate is the only second surfactant. The composition of claim 1, wherein the taurate is sodium methyl cocoyl taurate. The composition of claim 1, wherein the taurate is present in an amount of from 0.5 to 2% by weight of the composition. The composition of claim 1, wherein the second surfactant contains a alkyl sulfate. The composition of claim 8, wherein the alkyl sulfate is the only second surfactant. The composition of claim 1, wherein the alkyl sulfate is sodium lauryl sulfate. A composition according to claim 1, wherein the alkyl sulfate is present in an amount of from 0.5 to about 1.5% by weight of the composition. A composition according to claim 1, wherein the second surfactant consists of a mixture of taurate and alkyl sulphate.
