PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a metal oxide catalyst having a long life and low cost without coexistence with manganese oxide having a BET specific surface area of 200 m2/g or more, and capable of removing efficiently various malodorous components and to provide a deodorant using the same.SOLUTION: A metal oxide catalyst contains 50-80 mass% manganese oxide in terms of the MnO2 conversion value, 5-20 mass% copper oxide in terms of the CuO conversion value, 5-20 mass% iron oxide in terms of the Fe2O3 conversion value, and 0.1-5 mass% phosphorus compound in terms of the P conversion value.
