A low-temperature sterilization apparatus and method, said apparatus comprising a microwave device (5), said microwave device (5) being provided with a microwave chamber (7) producing a sterilizing microwave radiation source said apparatus further comprising a container (1) located inside the microwave chamber (7) said container (1) being provided with a feed port (3) and a discharge port (4). An interlayer (12) is provided on the outer side of the container (1), said interlayer (12) being provided with a fluid inlet (13) and a fluid outlet (14) said interlayer (12) being internally provided with a fluid said fluid being a liquid mixture containing microwave-absorbing material. The method is: material entering via the feed port (3) said container (1) inside the microwave chamber (7) the mixed solution containing microwave-absorbing material being guided into the interlayer (12) via a fluid inlet (13), forming an externally arranged microwave-absorbing layer for sterilizing the material.
