A retractor for use during surgery comprises a pair of blade assemblies. At the time of implementation, the blade assembly takes a low profile by initially being in a closed position, inserted into a relatively small incision, and pulled away from each other, thereby pulling the skin around the incision and making an incision An opening longer than the portion is formed. The retractor is configured to rotate the first blade about the first axis and the second blade about the second axis. The retractor is configured to move the pair of blade assemblies away along the third axis. The retractor is configured to pivot the first blade about the fourth axis and the second blade about the fifth axis.
