An insect swatter 1 comprising an elongate handle 3 and an enlarged head 2, the head comprising flexible protrusions 7 for resiliently displacing around the body of an insect 13, to capture and retain the insect. The head 2 may have a rear face 5 and a front face 4 separated by a rim 6. The front face 4 may have anchoring locations 8 for the protrusions 7. The protrusions 7 may be a synthetic monofilament or animal bristle, and the protrusions 7 may define a level plane 9b for capturing the insect. Also disclosed is a pick device 10, which may have a body 12 and prongs 11a, 11b, for extracting the insect 13 from the flexible protrusions.
