An assembly for lifting the lower eyelid can be surgically implanted in the patient. The assembly may include a mounting plate, a lid support member, and an elongated shaft that extends between and couples the mounting plate and the lid support member. The mounting plate can be coupled to a facial bone, such as the cheekbone, while the eyelid support member contacts and lifts the patient's lower and lower eyelids.
