PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a proteoglycan-containing material produced from fish cartilage with a low-toxic solvent, and to provide applications thereof.SOLUTION: The invention provides a proteoglycan-containing material which is produced from a fish cartilage and contains proteoglycan as an acidic sugar component and acidic sugar, wherein the proteoglycan with a molecular weight of 2000 kDa or more, preferably with a molecular weight of 5000 kDa or more is contained, 50 mass% or more of the acid sugar component has a molecular weight of 2000 kDa or more, 20 mass% or more of the acid sugar component has a molecular weight of 10000 kDa or more, and 20 or more mass% of the acid sugar component is the proteoglycan. The proteoglycan-containing material has skin moisturizing and anti-aging effect, such as skin fibroblast proliferation effect, skin barrier function enhancing and improving effect, skin collagen productivity enhancing and improving effect, and dermal thickening inhibitory effect.
