A rotational drive arrangement for a surgical instrument including a surgical end effector. In one form, the rotational drive arrangement includes a drive shaft assembly that is selectively axially movable between a first position and a second position. The rotational transmission device is operatively interfaced with the drive shaft assembly so that when the drive shaft assembly is in the first axial position, the rotational transmission device is rotated by applying one of the rotational drive motions to the drive shaft assembly. When the transmission device applies a first rotational control motion to the surgical end effector and the drive shaft assembly is in the second axial position, the rotational transmission device causes the second rotational motion to be applied to the drive shaft assembly.
