The present invention relates to a deproteinised calf blood preparation for use in the prevention or treatment of post-stroke cognitive impairment, wherein the deproteinised calf blood preparation is administered parenterally 0-10 days after onset of stroke at least once and wherein the parenteral administration is followed by a period of enteral administration, hi a preferred embodiment of the present invention, the deproteinised calf blood preparation is administered intravenously after onset of stroke once daily for a period of at the most 20 days, and the intravenous administration is followed by a period of oral administration of about 200 mg of the deproteinised calf blood preparation three limes daily for a period of about б months or even longer as a substantially continuous treatment.
