The present invention relates to an apparatus for purifying the air in the refrigerator and maintaining freshness while minimizing modification to an existing refrigerator structure, and a control method thereof. The apparatus for purifying air and maintaining freshness is separately formed from a storage space (12) of a refrigerator (10) and installed in a cooling channel (14) communicating with the storage space (12) through an inlet (13) and an outlet (15). A photocatalytic filter (30) is installed near the outlet (15) in the cooling channel (14). A plurality of cells (32) is formed on the photocatalytic filter (30) to form an air hole in a direction identical to an air flow direction in the cooling channel (14). A UV LED (41) is installed in the cooling channel (14) to emit an ultraviolet ray towards the cells (32) of the photocatalytic filter (30).본 발명은 기존의 냉장고 구조에 대한 변형을 최소화하면서도 냉장고 내부 공기를 정화하고 선도를 유지할 수 있는 장치와 그 제어 방법에 관한 것이다.본 발명은 냉장고(10)의 저장공간(12)과 별도로 형성되되, 상기 저장공간(12)과 유입구(13) 및 배출구(15)를 통해 연통하는 냉각유로(14)에 설치되는 공기정화 및 선도유지장치로서, 상기 냉각 유로(14) 내의 배출구(15) 부근에 광촉매필터(30)가 설치되되, 상기 광촉매필터(30)에는 상기 냉각 유로(14) 내의 공기 유동방향과 동일한 방향으로 통기공을 형성하는 복수개의 셀(32)에 형성되고, 상기 냉각 유로(14)에는 상기 광촉매필터(30)의 셀(32)을 향해 자외선을 조사하는 UV LED(41)가 설치되는 것을 특징으로 한다.
